Intellect Books will launch its Mediated Cities book series April 01-03, 2016 with three books.

Imaging the City: Art, Creative Practices and Media Speculations. ISBN: 978-1-78320-557-8

This is a call for chapter contributions for the following book in the series from the perspective of all disciplines that engage with issues of the city, its design, mediation, representation and experience.

Contributions are welcome from urban design, planning, cultural studies, digital art, emerging technologies, social media, film, photography  etc.

The next book in the series will be drawn from the conference: Digital-Cultural Ecology and the Medium-Sized City.

Thanks to everyone who turned up last month to see the amazing Acoustica. It was a great night and a real pleasure to see so many familiar faces.

This month we welcome back The Hot Strings Review featuring Martin Wheatley on guitar and ukulele and Mike Piggott www.mikepiggott.com on fiddle. They are both incredible musicians and gave us a fantastic evening last time they were at Forest Roots. If you saw them last time you will remember Martin's mesmerizing performance of The Dambusters on the ukulele (check him out on YouTube) and Mike’s amazing jazz fiddle playing. These two are definitely not to be missed.

The Flats Family Band will be there as well as surprise guests and local performers.

THE POLITICS OF POST-SOVIET CINEMA: COLLOQUIUM FEATURING JACQUES RANCIERE

The Department of Comparative Literature and the Cogut Center for the Humanities at Brown University present “Béla Tarr: The Politics of Post-Soviet Cinema,” a colloquium on the work of the Hungarian filmmaker, featuring Jacques Rancière, András Bálint Kovács, and Eva Cermanová.

Discussions of Béla Tarr’s films typically divide his work into the pre-1989 cinema of a militant director, grappling with the problems of socialist Hungary, and the post-1989 work of a mature artist, characterized by disenchantment and contemplation. Jacques Rancière’s book Béla Tarr, The Time Afterstrongly and compellingly rejects this narrative. “Béla Tarr: The Politics of Post-Soviet Cinema” will feature Rancière returning to this them e, along with András Bálint Kovács, acclaimed scholar of European cinema and one of the foremost interpreters of Tarr’s work, and Eva Cermanová, a graduate researcher on Béla Tarr.
